The October BALID Informal Literacy Discussion will be led by Professor Gordon O. Ade-Ojo, Professor of Language and Literacy Policy in Lifelong Learning in the Faculty of Education and Health at the University of Greenwich. This will be a hybrid event with both in-person and online attendance options.
Register here for both online and virtual attendance.
The venue is Room HH102, Hamilton House, 15 Park Vista, London, SE10 9LZ. The event will begin at 12 noon for both online and in-person participation.
This ILD will examine an emerging dominant literacy - IT literacy - and its potential impact on members of communities within which it is becoming dominant. Using qualitative methods of interviews and a focus group discussion, Professor Ade-Ojo conducted a preliminary exploration of the views of staff within one organisation on the impact of this new dominant literacy. Some of the emergent views cause us to reflect on notions of exclusion, inadequacies, and imposition. This ILD will challenge us to think about how we respond to this situation.
This Informal Literacy Discussion will be presented in hybrid mode - both face-to-face at the Hamilton House venue at the University of Greenwich and with a virtual option. If you have questions about participation or if you would like more information about attendance, do contact me at [email protected].
Looking forward to being together,
Catherine
