Implications of the current drive to diversify the provision of Higher Education, including:

• HE being taught in FE colleges;

• The growth of private universities and degree courses designed by other for-profit bodies; and

• Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) - current developments and potential.

Follows the Government’s response to its consultation on Alternative Providers which aimed to:

• Encourage expansion of alternative providers; and

·         Set out steps to create a ‘level-playing field’ between traditional universities and new entrants to the market.

·         The increasing provision of HE within FE colleges - including whether FE colleges or groups of colleges should be given degree-awarding powers;
