Waste Stories from New College Lanarkshire Celebration Event

News

On 27th August, CR&DALL and the University of Glasgow School of Education were pleased to host students and staff from Visual Arts at New College Lanarkshire for an event celebrating artworks produced by students studying at the College in 2023/4. The art was produced in collaboration with Waste Stories, a CR&DALL project that aims to develop people’s waste literacies and so to change their relationships with waste and value.

The artworks have been on display in the School (and before that at Glasgow’s Mitchell Library). There are more than 50 pieces exploring waste in different ways, including using waste materials from black plastic bin bags and plastic bottles to spent fireworks and vapes. Collectively, they demonstrate a broad and varied understanding of waste as a concept, as a modern human activity and as a socioenvironmental challenge.

The event also saw the first public reading of an original story written by award-winning author and poet Ron Butlin.

You can read more about the event and the exhibition on the Waste Stories blog.
