CR&DALL Director for Europe, Mike Osborne, and PASCAL Associate Director for Europe, Roberta Piazza, were delighted to be hosted by the Shanghai Municipal Institute for Lifelong Learning (SMILE) and its director Professor Jian Huang from 15-18 March 2018. During that time, they discussed a number of areas of potential collaboration including assessment of the regional engagement role of Technical and Vocational Education Colleges in Shanghai.

Building on our team’s ESRC-IAA project ‘Towards maximising international PhD students’ experience in the UK’ and with additional funding from the UK Council for Graduate Education; a team from the School of Education at the University of Glasgow organised an event entitled ‘Enhancing the Student Experience for International Doctoral Students’ in Glasgow on Tuesday 28th November 2017.

Three former professors of adult education, and the current chair, from the University of Glasgow were amongst some 100 friends and colleagues who celebrated the 80th birthday of Professor Peter Jarvis, the eminent adult educator, known to all in the field. Professor Lalage Bown, Emeritus Professor of Adult Education at Glasgow eloquently spoke of his contributions especially in the international sphere.

Job Purpose: To make a leading contribution to the project Educational Disadvantage and Place within the Education programme of the ESRC-funded Urban Big Data Centre. Specifically, the job requires expert knowledge in the area of educational disadvantage and/or urban neighbourhoods, and strong proven skills in the quantitative analysis of large data sets.
