World Access to HE Newsletter - 16th October 2020

World Access to Higher Education Day (WAHED) is a day of awareness raising that aims to bring global attention to inequality in access to higher education and to accelerate action.  Now in its third year, WAHED is organised by the National Education Opportunities Network (NEON).

We are excitedly counting down to World Access to Higher Education Day, which is taking place on 17th November 2020.

This year, WAHED will take the form of a global conference series based around 'Access and Success in the Post Pandemic world' and will feature a series of six continuous events, each led by an organisation active in promoting equity in higher education within their own continent.

We are pleased confirm WAHED regional co-ordinators for the Global Conference programme as below:

Asia - Asia-Europe Foundation

Australasia - Equity Practitioners in Higher Education Australasia - EPHEA  & NCSEHE

Europe - National Education Opportunities Network - NEON

Latin America - The UNESCO International Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean - IESALC

North America - Lumina Foundation

We are finalising agreement for the Africa leg of our Conference Series and an update on this will feature in next week's newsletter!

This year’s WAHED was launched in July at an event featuring input from a number of organisations actively committed to greater equity in higher education on a global basis.

An online conference is prepared jointly by the European Access Network (EAN), AMU and Compostela Group of Universities (CGU).

The EAN encourages wider access to higher education for those who are currently under-represented, whether for reasons of gender, ethnic origin, nationality, age, disability, family background, vocational training, geographic location, or earlier educational disadvantage.
