Dr Samantha Broadhead from Leeds Arts university; Rosemarie Davis from the Skills Company, Manchester and Tony Hudson from University of East London have written a book for Emerald Publishing that takes a critical look at Access to HE education from its early days in the late 1960s to more current developments. 

Refugees can face many barriers to accessing higher education, including a lack of information, advice and individual guidance sensitive to their specific needs, inadequate provision of intensive language courses for academic purposes, and restricted access to government student finance schemes.

The Open University has published a Special Edition of the Journal of Widening Participation and Lifelong Learning (Volume 20, Number 3, July 2018) has now been published. Further information is detailed below.

November 2019 will mark an important educational centenary: the publication of the Ministry of Reconstruction’s Final Report on Adult Education. The report, largely authored by R.H. Tawney, set the groundwork for liberal adult education in Britain for the rest of the 20th century. Its centenary is, we believe, a vital opportunity to reflect on the needs and possibilities for adult education today.
