CR&DALL Deputy Director Margaret Sutherland will be developing over the next year, one of the University of Glasgow's new courses within the Futurelearn platform.
This hands-on seminar will be delivered by City of Glasgow College Adult Literacy and Community Senior Lecturer, Diane Gardner who will highlight how a synthetic phonics based reading and writing scheme can help native English speaking adults and those from an ESOL background learn to read.
City of Glasgow College are now in partnership with BBC Learning’s Skillswise to further develop phonics as a learning tool by creating suitable and relevant resources to help reduce the number of those who cannot read or write in the UK today.
We are a group of academics and educational researchers who support the broad policy agenda presented in the NUT‘s Stand Up for Education campaign. We see the Stand up for Education initiative as a welcome attempt to present a much more positive and optimistic vision of education than that currently on offer (see our statement of support and list of signatories).

We are pleased to announce the establishment of the Adam Smith Research Foundation’s Research Programme for 2014-16, which concerns the theme of Social Precarity.
The second interdisciplinary one-day workshop will take place at the University of Glasgow on 21 November 2014. Attendance is open to researchers (academic and non-academic) and practitioners/volunteers from the voluntary and public sectors. The initiative is funded by the University of Glasgow’s New Initiatives Fund and Robertson Bequest.
